When Light turned to Shadow
It began with the girl named Light
Spinner.
Or rather at her birth. While she lay in cradle warmth, a pixie sat on it's rim.
It sat staring at the babes golden hair, 'a single lock would be that to rival a
fairy's.' It thought. 'How could one human receive such a beautiful head of
hair? And those eyes,' bristle the pixie, 'how they twinkle as if the star was
plucked from it's place in the heavens to shine as they did.'
Now stories tell us that
pixies are quite delighting attractive creatures who love to play tricks.
However, they do not like to be rivaled in splendor for then they became
jealous, as they tended to do, and then they would resort to vile trickery. And
so this youthful pixie, with divine face was turned ugly by bitterness staring
at this beautiful child, simmer with envy. 'How could the goddess allow this to be.' Befuddled the
pixie knew, no hand may it lie on this child, for it was forbidden so by the divine
tribune for pixies to interfere in human affairs. But the pixie knew it had not
to lay a hand on the child to unfurl it's resentment.
'Unto you, I implant a thought,'
'what lies in so beauty sweet
will always be incomplete'
And with such words it disappears.
'What did that mean,' thought the child. 'Incomplete, how could I feel so, I
have a brimming future and my appearance is quite unparalleled. I know not of
what I lack, unless it's because I know not of what I'm lacking. If that be how
can I receive completeness?' Now such thoughts could not be expressed tangibly
to another at such an early age. In fact, it was months even years before this
child was able to express the emptiness she had. But by then, it was repressed
into a side of her she would not reveal.
Life, as it always did, pushed on. So now at the age of 11,
Light Spinner was apprenticed to a trade. But not just any trade, it was that of
highest prestige. She was training to become magic user under the sorcerer
Norwyn. Along with her new friend Castaspella... (Why such a name at such a
tender age? What would be if Castaspella this name destined to belong to a
sorceress was given to a weaver's child? Well, that would never be. For until
the child saw the oracle such name could not be selected. Another generic was
given, but if the child was pronounced a child of light, magic, or some other
path another name was selected to befit the child. And such was the case of
Castaspella and Light Spinner.) Anyway they were pupils together under Norwyn.
And so he would teach them lessons, but not always in a direct fashion.
Like any group, some pick up talents like a book, and
then there were the ones who had to work. Castaspella excelled and was always
catching on quickly, while Light Spinner could not grasp something with out
practices, tons of practice. And so this frustrated her. 'What's wrong with me!
Why can't I get it? Is it because I just don't have the talent? Why am I
here?'
'what lies in so beauty sweet
will always be incomplete'
And so this tormented her insatiable. That is until, a creature approached her
with a offer she could not refuse.
It, or rather he, was most hideous
in looks and nature. And every time he spoke she felt his snorts jolted her, his
wandering eyes look through her clothing tainting her innocents forever. She
would have ended their acquaintance there had not he promised to fulfill her
wishes.
"I can give you power, girl. Even more than Norwyn could
ever show you. You'll like that wouldn't you?" He offered.
"Why are you doing this?" She asked boldly.
"You know something I want to know...very badly."
She started to back up. "I think I should go."
"I don't think that would be wise of you." He
snarled. "Could you live with the fact you gave up the power to rid Etheria
of the Horde."
"Hhhow do I know you don't work for them?"
"Because I do."
"I'll never defile the Rebellion," Her voice was
not so strong as before. "Besides why would you give me the power to
destroy you?"
"Because, the Horde has abused me. I wish to destroy it
before it can warp another like myself."
"If you think I'll tell you the secret hiding camps your
wrong." Her porcelain chin jutted forward.
"Girl if I wanted information I could extract it through
hundreds of ways. But I need you merely to take me to the Counsel of Kings. And
from there you can watch me as I relay all the secrets of the Horde."
"Why do I have to take you."
The veins in his neck strained. "Because, they would
never let me walk in there alone, child. If accompanied by one of them, I'll have a
better chance to live to tell them my message."
"Why not ask Norwyn, to take you, why me?" She
asked still skeptical.
"Miserable child, (snarl) I give you the utmost honor as
to bring in the greatest spy in the history of the Rebellion, and you, you bat
it away like it's a bug. Do you even realize what I have to tell them. I can
reveal the locations of the Hordes' training camps, their stock piles of
weapons, where they are least protected, and expose Horde spies. If even you
will not trust me, do you think Norwyn will? If that be the case then I shall
return back to the Horde knowing the rebels are no help to me." He says
then turns around to leave.
"Wait don't go! I'll take you but..." She cried
frantically to his back.
"But what, I see I've already wasted my time here Good
Day."
"... If I take you, how will I be assured you will tell
us everything and not try to ambush the Counsel?"
A smile spreads across his face. He turns back around, his
look now serious, and say with great levity, "As I mentioned to you
earlier, I can give the power to destroy the Horde, do you not think that will
be sufficient enough to deal with me if I prove wrong? I would yield it to, to
help the rebels, but I a not a magic user so can not use it."
"Then let me have it now so I know you will not cause
any harm before we reach there."
"What and leave me with no way to ensure you take me all
the way to the Counsel of Ten? No child, I will give it to you after we near the
camp. Is it a deal?"
She looked at his white scaly hands in disgust, but she then
though of the glory it would bring to her. Finally Norwyn could look at her and
say 'Good Job Light Spinner, you have really helped the Rebels more than you
could ever know.' As if by magic, she was near the clearing of the camp. Her
hands were shaking and her senses were numb it was as if she was looking in on a
play. She could not contain the thrill of helping the revolutionaries
and the power she will soon yield. Soon they would compare her to the legendary heroine,
She-ra. Was that her destiny, to be the girl who set Etheria free to become this
mythical She-ra? She had only thought the legends about the fabled She-ra were
just that legends.
"We are near the camp, see it is over there. Now it is
your turn to fulfill your end of the barging."
"Yes, how could I forget that. As I said, the power I
promised." He reached into his pack and pulled out a burning gem, it's
color that of blood. It's light radiated in pulses as if to be the throbbing of
a giant heart, with each beat it drew Light Spinner further into it's core. When
she held it is seemed to meld into her hands and warm her soul with a feeling
she could not describe. Then just as she had tasted it's warmth the feeling
cooled and them became like ice. No colder than ice, like void of any heat. It
burned her hand with it chilled gripe.
"What's happening to me? What have you done!?"
"What's wrong I gave you what you wanted. I gave you the
power desired. But in exchanged, you will now serve me! You are no long Light
Spinner you are now a Shadow Weaver!" As he said his last words he bursted
into crazed laughter.
Her only hope of revenge, was to taken all the power and try
to use it against him. So the gem she had first held in rapture she now held in enmity.
She would not let him get a way with this. And for the first time, she wanted to
kill something. Nothing would stand in her way of eradicating this villain.
However before the gem was totally absorb into her, Norwyn bash into the gem
causing it to shatter on impact.
It was then she realized she did not hear what they were
saying, and it was also the time she realized she was changed forever.
"What lies in so beauty sweet,
will always be incomplete.
it's only when all is lost,
you will find out the cost."
And that she did, for with beauty lost,
she found within the ultimate cost.
She wallowed only in vanity and pride,
and did not look to what's inside.
So her dishonor does not solely lay,
unto her act but the deceit she play.
So what you've read by candle tallow,
was the story of Light turnin' into Shadow.
